Players will have a fighting chance against latent dooms harnessing one new kind of power that feyfolk will be able to grant, namely Fey Visions.
When you bind a feyfolk that gives you this power, if an event takes place while the power is activated (for 7 weeks after contact, daylight weeks, etc), it'll be presented to you as a vision before it happens, giving you the chance to prevent it at the cost of 10 Weariness or simply do nothing about it.
This will also apply to events generated by both enemy and allied units and those generated by relics, giving you a greater control over elements that were up to now only indirectly under your control at best.
You'll still need Fey Barriers of conventional means to avoid direct attacks. Nonetheless, the visions will be a handy tool for you to have, allowing you to prevent events that would cost you money or the lives of sympathetic colonists while at the same time giving you the chance to allow those that hinder your enemies.
