Anamnesis, of Renascents and Monsters,

A text-based simulation and role playing game of exploration, warfare, intrigue and romance in a low fantasy, early 20th century environment.

About

 The Game

Anamnesis is a text-based, single player, life simulation and role playing game in as continuous a development as life circumstances have allowed since 2010. It exists because I always wanted to play a game like it but nobody else was doing it.

The content of the game, such as plot elements, characters, factions and locations, are manually developed, but their selection is randomized for each gameplay and they behave differently depending on each others' existence. Like in real life, the difficulty of each playthrough can vary wildly and not always be fair.

In the colonies in which the players will live and repeatedly die, set in fictional technological ages and societies loosely ranging between those of 1880 to 1930, they are free to play a grand role as governors, a humble one as adventurers and outcasts, or something in between as merchant venturers.

Besides the procedural main quest, each game cycle will present players different emergent military, romantic, supernatural, political or economical chances and objectives that are seldom clearly marked for them.

Key Features

  • A randomly generated but humanly curated world to explore in every game.
  • A growing variety of content presently including: 196 different units, 63 different locations, 64 social and environmental contexts, 38 political factions, 38 player character peculiarities, 13 ancient relics and 13 latent dooms.
  • Procedurally generated mystical beings, gods and forces of nature to investigate, meddle with and sometimes harness, collectively called Feyfolk.
  • Optional romantic content with player character's gender and sexuality options.
  • Enjoy a quiet life interacting with evolving characters, engage in politics and intrigue to become an emperor or empress, adventure on your own, command military units to conquer the world or summon eldritch abominations to do your bidding.
  • Extensive use of the best graphic rendering tool yet developed, the player's imagination. (Results might vary according to each individual user's hardware specs.)

The Setting

The game takes place in a fictional cyclic world somewhat inspired by the Cthulhu Mythos, although not directly drawing from them.

In this world, two loose entities known as "The Court of All Humans" and "The Outer Lands' Influence" are engaged in a cold war. The Court advocates the continuation of the existing meritocratic, anthropocentric government by an elected aristocracy.  The Influence, on the other hand, is a driving force behind certain individuals that seek the destruction of the meritocracy and the creation of a new society following the dictates of ancient, outer beings.

But these entities' cyclic squabbles are rather diminutive compared to those of the Renascents. These individuals are imperfect immortals that can die from any cause other than age, but immediately reappear elsewhere retaining their eternal aspect, their deaths simply erased from non-renascent memories.

The player takes the role of a renascent aristocrat loyal to any of the two allegiances.
