Turns out I had somehow managed to ruin all saves in the game.
Saving a game only recorded trivial details but not your vital exploration progress or conquests. I spent two whole days banging my head over it. However, at present time, not only I've solved the problem, but I've also resolved not to tinker unnecessarily anymore, until the next big scare that is. At the very least, as a consequence of this blind tinkering, the encyclopedia is now more accessible than before.
Other than that, I'm still adding small trinkets here and there with the ongoing terrain and renascent events. This time it was the turn of some docks. I decided to put some guys playing dice there for the player to join, did some research on historical, simple dice games and added 3 of them to be called randomly in these events.
None of them takes longer than 20 seconds to complete, so they make for a nice diversion and won't disturb the rhythm of the game.
