Smarter Lobbies, Expanded Appearance and "Tolls"

The more testing I do, the more features I want to add, so I'm squeezing in those that hardly require any more proofreading while storing the others in my ever growing to-do pile.

The first of these small new features is one that somebody asked for a few months ago. Lobbies will now be a little more active about immigration issues and they'll prioritize immigration-related proposals and even aggressive tactics if they feel there are too many people of the wrong kind inside the colony.

The second feature is a third variation for randomly generated characters, that is, your avatar, your lovers and somewhere in the future other important people and independent aristocrats. Now each character starts with a complexion attribute, continues with an easy to change feature such as hairstyle, and finishes with a notable trait such as a facial feature.

So far, I was avoiding purely negative traits so that players wouldn't be stuck with them all the game, but now you'll also be able to re-roll your character's appearance from the start of the game as many times as you want, so that's not an issue anymore. Still, I'll try to go easy on those poor random characters, they have it bad enough as it is already.

Yet a third feature that I didn't bother putting into the list because of how easy it was, is that now you'll be able to extort money from enemy attacking units you confront and defeat by charging them a toll. Charging these "tolls" to defeated enemies in your territory will of course cause a small increase in Local Tension, but not as big as plundering a territory. The money will come from the enemy's account and the exact amount will depend on the attacking unit's Size value.

In this manner, you'll now be able to play as some sort of daring desperado and afford a new base as an outcast by, for example, ambushing and charging a toll to a snooping reporter, as I just did a while ago.

The next post will probably be for the release.
