Up until now, you acquired renascents pretty much like you acquired any other units, except for the starting one, serving as a sort of welcome present. Now you'll also be able to get them while simply visiting territories.
From the next version on, instead of simply getting a starting renascent, you'll also have 1 to 3 lost ones wandering or trapped somewhere inside the colony. You'll be able to run into them while visiting territories, you'll also be able to try to rescue them if you have a base. This will be done in a similar way to other contests, allowing you to use other renascents or your own character. If you do succeed, you'll get a new ally, if you fail, nothing happens.
Additionally, renascents lost in battle won't just simply disappear anymore either, but will have a fairly good chance to end up lost in this manner, so you will be more likely to find and rescue them once more.
By the way, I think I'm going to remove or at least nerf the reward Merits from besting enemies in combat with you own character, as you can already get plenty of Merits by capturing and selling them.
I'm going to go ahead and do it unless someone has a good reason against it.
It would be nice to have multiple ways to gain Merit; right now the only reliable ways are random challenge-type contests in territories and battles. If you nerf combat Merits, then maybe you should look into how gaining Merits work in general?
ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting to have a balance where Merit is equal to fame. Where having high Merit makes it possible to pull a lot of strings, but makes you a high profile target. On the other hand, low Merit would make you drop under the radar for major enemy players. So there'd be actually two strategies regarding it, either to go shadowy low-profile or public and targeted. Now you just want to always have a lot of Merit.
I think I want the shadowyness of players to depend on their base rather than their merits. I've already taken a few steps to make players with fortresses and dungeons the target of more attacks than players with smaller bases in the next release, but perhaps doing something more with Merits could be worth looking at.
DeleteIn the next version you'll also be able to earn Merit in a couple of new ways, but I think I'm not going to remove the fighting way to earn them after all. Instead I've been thinking about allowing the enemies to learn from their mistakes so they'll stop sending muleteers or lawyers to assault your dungeons or fortresses head on so often.
