More Stuff Catching on Fire

Remember how 9 months ago my computer caught on fire? Well, this time it was only the street's electric wiring that suddenly burst into flames, so I've only lost a day of work.

I seem to be the only one in my neighbourhood that puts on more clothes instead of simply turning up the heat when winter comes, so apparently the cables, being a little bit on the ancient side, couldn't endure the extra push of the cold season.

So there I was minding my business during the late afternoon when poof, lights out. Then I heard a commotion outside and couldn't help but notice how the street was covered in smoke and the smell of burning plastic reached everywhere. Finally, I noticed the flames. I was fairly sure something was amiss at this point, because they are never usually there.

Things got more interesting when some of my neighbours decided to bring water to put the flaming cables out, but those of us that could actually still think managed to stop them in time. The fire was extinguished as soon as we managed to get a ladder and a fire extinguisher together.

Fortunately, it's more profitable for electricity companies to have people prepared to make emergency repairs than to pay reparations for spoiled food and stuff, so by late night the electricity was working again.

Unfortunately, the telephone cables go along with the electric ones, so my internet burned along with the cables. Telephone companies have no incentive for carrying such quick repairs, so it's just now that I recovered my connection.

I suspect the fey folk are involved in one way or another in all these events. Making Anamnesis must anger them.

  1. Um, this is probably a dumb and americocentric (totally a word) question, but .co is colombia, right? Does it honestly get that cold there? Or at least cold enough that winter heating draws more than summer cooling?

    1. .co is Colombia indeed, but long story short, all other good anamnesis domains were taken.

I'm actually from the coldest parts of Spain. I'm at -1º Celsius right now, something like 30º Fahrenheit according to google.

    2. I kinda had a feeling it was something like that. ...ha, sometimes I think us americans forget that some Spanish speakers actually come from Spain.
And ha I think even the most.....culturally isolated americans knows that 0ºC is freezing, and considering my phone right now says 8........
