Lobbies, Votes and Political Favours

It is my intention to integrate the basics of politics in the next version of Anamnesis.

Politics will revolve around lobbies, favours and voting and will ultimately allow you a third way to win the game by becoming the uncontested emperor or empress of the colony.

The politics, at least for now, take place on a local level for matters concerning the colony. At the beginning of each game, 3 lobbies loyal to each faction (court and influence) are chosen and given a roughly similar amount of power. Each lobby will have a series of assets and values that it will defend while trying to increase both its power and that of its faction.

Weak local lobbies will end up being displaced by more powerful, hostile ones from the mainland seeking a foothold inside the colony. If for any reason you wish to avoid this, you will be able to subsidize them to increase their power.

The currency when dealing with lobbies is "Favours". Favours will be exchanged in a series of ways. Certain lobbies might contact you to vote for or against something in exchange for a favour, and you'll be able to do the same when they remain indecisive.

If a lobby is weak and it owes you many favours, you might be able to put a renascent buddy in charge as long as the loyalty and origin of the lobby match those of your renascent. For hostile lobbies, you will even be able to use captured enemy renascents as puppets. In this way, you'll be able to acquire full control even over enemy lobbies.

You will be able to make proposals at the cost of 1 Merit, but most of the time it will be other lobbies that will make those proposals. Lobbies will generally look over their own interests, but there are some wild cards, such as independent aristocrats and parties failing to assist to a voting, that will make things a little more interesting and unpredictable.

There is much to do about this yet, more details to come in the following days.

  1. badass. playing a game like this that simulates lots of aspects of 'real life' is a lot more fulfilling than most games in which you your actions are very limited. anamnesis is sort of like unreal world or dwarf fortress via text haha because it lets you do such a variety of things. anyway, i'm excited for the chance to become emperor/empress!

    1. I agree! I also prefer games, like Unreal World or Dwarf Fortress, that allow you to focus on different matters and build your own story.

Proclaiming yourself emperor/empress will probably be harder than collecting the 16 pieces of the relic, but easier than influencing/reclaiming all population.
