The quests are looking good so far, but they are going to take a while yet.
In the end I made quests depend upon the different territories so the missions to undertake will vary from one game to another. Each quest consists of about 80 lines of text divided between the different possible events and their outcomes.
The objective of these quests will be to retrieve the scattered pieces of a powerful object randomly chosen from a list at the beginning of each game. This is a mission that only renascents can partake in, but unlike combat and visits, they work together as a party for this end.
More likely than not, there will be obstacles to overcome as soon as the player starts the mission. These obstacles will require a stat roll that the player can attempt personally or leave to another member of the party in a similar way to how the contests work now.
There will be 5 attempts available to overcome as many as 3 possible eventualities per mission and each party member, except the player character, will only be available once. When they perform an action, whether successful or not, they won't be available until the next quest, so they must be chosen wisely. Besides, some characters might not be available for some missions for a series of reasons. The numbers and certain mechanics might be tweaked later depending on how the testing goes.
The whole thing is going to take about a day per quest, considering that some days I might pull two of them while others, like this whole coming weekend, I'll barely be able to touch a computer at all. I could do them faster, but quality will surely drop. Taking a few extra weeks allows me to have slightly different mindsets when approaching the missions. Suffice to say, the quest I'm currently writing involves eventualities in setting off a camp, having myself assembled a 3x5 metre tent hours ago.
Also, I'm getting constant headaches trying to draw the characters and their oh-so-beloved joints and articulations, what's all the fuzz about having a proper skeletal structure anyway?
Anyhow, right now I'm considering either making unfinished releases with, say, 16 or 26 quests each to get some early feedback, or to just wait until all 52 are finished before releasing anything.
I'll take some screenshots once I start the testing and proofreading of the first quests and I'll also be posting the finished drawings in any event.
Drawings are going to be few and far in between though, I hate drawing.
